Novel heat-transfer medium and air wall increase efficiency of solar thermal tower power plants

The higher the receiver temperature, the more efficiently a solar thermal power plant will operate. Convective thermal losses also have an important effect on yield. The HelioGLOW collaborative project by Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and industrial partners is working to address these challenges: The project team investigated a novel ceramic heat-transfer medium including power plant design and air wall for the thermal insulation of the receiver. The trend toward continuously improving production processes is reflected in the development of the Stellio heliostat.

Current status of our lighthouse in Frövi, Sweden

The goal of the Swedish demo site of the CORALIS project in Frovi is to make a 10-hectare greenhouse operational while supplied by waste heat and carbon dioxide (CO2) from a nearby industry, thus demonstrating the power of industrial symbiosis in replacing fossil fuels which have been commonly used in greenhouses so far. In addition,

Bilayer PET/PVDF substrate-reinforced solid polymer electrolyte improves solid-state lithium metal battery performance

Effective energy storage is paramount to society’s transition to renewable energy. Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) have the potential to double the amount of energy stored in a single charge compared to current lithium ion batteries (LIBs), but lithium dendrite growth and electrolyte consumption in current LMB technologies are hindering battery performance.
